Summer is Finally Here! |
|
When we
sent our last newsletter, we had no idea how much rain was in store
for us. WOW! With any luck, all of that wet weather is finally
behind us and we can proceed with trying to fit three months of
summer into the month of August.
Senior
season is in full swing around here. Read on for our deadlines
for scheduling your pictures in order to comply with the different
high school yearbook deadlines. You will also find an example of
how we are trying to keep things new and fresh for our seniors this
year. It's time for another Fall Promotion (can you believe it?!),
so you will want to get the details on that. Fall also means it's
time to start thinking about the upcoming gift giving season, and we
can help with our D-Photo Creations.
Finally, we have another installment of our much loved Tip Corner.

appointment, we will mail you a gift in appreciation of your

Senior Portrait Yearbook Deadlines |
We
have been in touch with many of the local high schools to inquire
about yearbook deadlines and portrait requirements. We can share the
following information.
Bonny Eagle High School: We have been unable to
confirm this year's deadline. However, last year it was set for
October 15th, and the yearbook picture could be in color or black and
white.
Gorham High School: We have confirmed that the
yearbook deadline is October 2nd, and the picture must be black and
white.
Westbrook High School: This year, Westbrook is using a
new company for their yearbooks and the deadline may be later than
normal. Until we are told otherwise, we will proceed as if the
deadline is the same as last year's October 1st.
Windham High School: The yearbook deadline is October
1st, and the yearbook picture must be in color.
In order to comply with yearbook deadlines that are set for the
first week in October, your senior portrait session must take place
by Sunday, September 13th. For yearbook deadlines in the middle of
October or later, your senior portrait session must take place by
Sunday, September 27th.

Trash the Dress! |
We
have been working with our senior clients for several years now. While
this time of year is always crazy for us, we LOVE working with all of
our seniors. Each year, we try to introduce something new to keep
things different and interesting. This year, we finally got to try
something we have wanted to try for a long time: a trash the dress
session! The idea behind one of these sessions is that your prom dress
is way too beautiful to wear once, take one (maybe not-your-favorite)
formal picture in it, and then put it in your closet never to be worn
again. So, why not pull it out and have some fun in front of the
camera?
We spread the word to our
Facebook friends and we found a senior who whole-heartedly
agreed! So what happens when you take a beautiful senior, add a
gorgeous dress and put her in an amazing location? You have a lot of
fun and get some great captures!
Many thanks to this senior and her family for being so willing to try
something new and fun with us - we had a blast! If you are interested
in trying this, simply
contact us
for more information.

Fall Promotion: 40 is Fabulous! |
You
may recall that last Fall we offered a "Fall is for Families"
promotion. It was a huge success, and we met some wonderful families
who loved our holiday card promotion. This year, we are trying
something a little different.
In the
month of October, Judianne will reach a milestone. Even though she
doesn't feel a day over 32 (Ha!), she will actually celebrate her 40th
birthday! You are invited to share in the
celebration with our "40 is Fabulous!"
promotion.
During the
month of October, any photo card or double-sided postcard purchase will
be 40% off the retail price. (Folded greeting cards are excluded
from this promotion; all other charges apply.) This is a great
time to order your holiday cards. Don't worry, you don't need to have
your photo session in October. We will design cards using any portraits
we have taken for you during the year.

for more information.

D-Photo Creations |
We
love to make beautiful things - most of you know that already. What you
may not know is that our love for creating goes beyond what we can do
with our digital photos on the computer. It's great to step away from
the computer and return to more traditional scrapbooking methods to make
gifts for loved ones or pieces that we can use to decorate our home.
This is one of those creations. It's a mini-version of our very popular
10x20 storyboards only this one is perfect for display on a mantle, a
bookcase or even your desk at work. Using the slate helps to give the
finished product more of an elegant feel, which is really wonderful when
you decide to give it as a gift instead of keeping it for yourself.
So why are we telling you all of this? Because we are excited to
introduce "D-Photo Creations" - instructional
classes to feed your creative needs. A couple of times a year, we will
offer classes that teach you how to create new and wonderful things.
Keep them for yourself, give them away as gifts, or do both. Once you
learn the basic steps, the variations on the theme are endless.
In the first class we are offering, you will learn how to make the slate
pictured above. (What a wonderful gift this would make for the upcoming
holidays!) Class size will be limited to 5 students, and the cost for
the class is $25. The materials will be provided for you - all you
need to do is bring your own pictures and your creative energy.
The first
class will be held Saturday morning, November 7th from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00
noon. The second class will be held the following Sunday afternoon,
November 15th from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. If you are interested in
participating, please
contact us
to reserve your spot by October 1st to ensure we have sufficient
supplies on hand.

Tip Corner: Protecting your Camera from Sand and Water |
|
At this
time of year, our cameras are getting a lot of use. Much of the time,
we are using our cameras near water and sand. While these locations
are perfect for getting great candid shots, they can be hazardous for
your camera. We have the following tips to help keep your camera in
great condition so you can keep getting those great shots!
Wear the camera strap: It may sound simple, but it is
especially important when taking pictures around the water or at the
beach. Dropping your camera in the water or getting it full of sand
can be fatal to your camera.
Protect the lens: Keep the camera lens covered when the
camera is not in use. If you have a point-and-shoot, be sure to close
the cover. If you have a single-lens reflex (SLR), be sure to use
your lens cover.
Cleaning the lens: If you get something on the lens, do not
clean it with a tissue or paper towel as these could scratch the lens.
Use a lens cleaning cloth that you can purchase at any local camera or
eye glass store.
Cleaning the camera body: If you get dust or sand inside the
camera, we recommend using a "pocket rocket" or other similar tool to
blow it out. Do not use canned air to clean the mirror and sensors.
If the pocket rocket does not work, then it needs to go to a camera
store for cleaning. Do not clean it yourself, as you risk damaging
the sensor.
