| BIG NEWS: We Have a Studio!!! |
|
Welcome to another edition of the Demers Photography e-newsletter. We are so excited to FINALLY be able to tell all of you that we have leased studio space!!!! This has been something we have wanted for a really long time, and we have explored many different options over the past couple of years. Starting November 1st, we will have a dedicated studio space in the center of Standish. Yeah! We still plan to be on-location photographers whenever possible (because we really cannot beat the natural beauty around here); but the studio will be a great option when, for example, it rains for five straight weeks over the summer. It will also be great to have when it starts to get really cold this winter. Stay tuned for more information and updates once we get in and get settled.

| Limited Edition Holiday Sessions |
We plan to christen our new studio space by offering our very first Limited Edition Holiday Sessions. These sessions will take place on Saturday, November 8th. In an effort to help you maximize your time during this very busy season, these will be only 20 minute sessions and we will present you with 5-7 final proofs to view. These proofs can then be used in a variety of ways - portraits, holiday cards, double sided photo ornaments, and even portrait purses.
For more information, including our holiday pricing packages, just send us an e-mail and we will send you all the information you need. |
| Holiday Gift Giving |
|
With the arrival of October, the cooler temperatures and the changing leaves, it is not as hard to believe that the Holidays will soon be here. Portraits make unique gifts for parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles. But, we offer so much more than portraits to help you take care of those people on your holiday gift giving list this year.
- Double-sided 2x3 soldered photo ornaments. What is so great about these is their size - they are not your traditional ornaments where the picture is so small you can hardly see it.
- Portrait Purses. Mothers and grandmothers alike love to show off their children on these beautiful bags. Judianne cannot go out in public with hers without someone stopping her and commenting on it. One comment that she hears over and over is "how did they get that picture so clear?!" You have got to see it for yourself to believe it.
- Custom Portrait Books. Our 5x5 custom proof albums are very popular. Our seniors love them, and our mothers love to collect them year after year to record their children's growth. They make great holiday gifts for grandparents, too!
- Gift Certificates. So many people talk about having portraits taken, but in the hectic pace of life, it often falls to the bottom of the priority list. It is something that can always be done later. Gift certificates are great for expectant mothers who want to record this time before it goes away forever, mothers who want pictures of their children, and grandmothers who would love to have special portraits taken with their grandchildren.
For those of you who have already had your portraits taken with us, there is no need to schedule another portrait session. You can order any of these great gifts to be created from the portraits we already have on file. Contact us today. |
| "Senior Season" is Coming to a Close |
Wow - what an incredible Senior Portrait Season we had this year! We had twice as many Seniors as we did last year - and we are not finished yet. (No wonder we are so tired!) When talking with family and friends, we often refer to this time of year as our "tax season". Both sets of our parents are very familiar with the tax season that runs from January 1st through April 15th, and how insane that period of time can be for anyone who prepares taxes. Senior season is like that for us - a very short and intense period of time with a lot of work to be done. It is crazy when you are in it, a huge relief when you survive it, and so much fun the whole way through. We would not trade it for anything! This year we met a lot of new people, and we were introduced to some great new locations. We also had the pleasure of working with some great parents who came back to us again. Other parents are promising they will be back with their younger children when the time comes. It feels like we are doing something right, and we plan to keep it up.
Thank you to all of our customers for making this our best Senior Season ever! |
| Tip Corner: Taking Better Halloween Pictures |
|
We love this time of year, and we are especially partial to Halloween. This holiday becomes bigger and bigger every year: the jack-o-lanterns, the great costumes, the excitement of trick-or-treating, and the parties. There are so many opportunities to take great pictures and capture once-in-a-lifetime expressions. Here are only a few tips to help you do just that.
- Tell a Story. If your kids are anything like ours, picking out the perfect Halloween costume is a big deal. They put a lot of thought into it, and there is much anticipation for the night when they finally get to wear it. So, when you photograph your kids in their costumes, don't wait until you have the "finished product," tell a story by capturing their transformation into the character.
- Taking Pictures at Dusk. Many of the Halloween activities take place after dark. If possible, get out in the late afternoon, just before the sun sets. This will allow you to take advantage of the available light to get sharp pictures while still giving your final pictures the dramatic lighting that makes them spooktacular.
- Jack-o-lanterns. Photographing jack-o-lanterns lit up at night is a must, but balancing the light outside the pumpkin with the light coming from inside the pumpkin can be tricky. If you use the flash on your camera, there will be too much light on the outside of the pumpkin. If you do not add enough light inside the pumpkin, it will be too dim to capture with your camera. We suggest the following:
- First, turn the flash on your camera off.
- Next, boost the light coming from inside the jack-o-lantern by adding a couple of extra candles.
- Then, try adding some ambient light with candles or a lantern outside of the pumpkin, but not within your shot. This will help compensate for the flash that you are not using without being too harsh.
- Finally, make sure that you are either using high speed film or bumping up the ISO on your digital camera to at least 400. Taking pictures at night without a flash requires a steady hand in order to avoid a blurry end result. If you have a tripod, now would be a good time to use it. If not, brace yourself against a tree or another solid object to help keep your hand steady while taking the picture.
